My family enjoys traveling. It took some convincing, but now my husband seems to enjoy flying to our various destinations as much as the rest of us. That said, something bizarre typically happens on our trips, by car or plane.
On the final leg home from our long awaited trip to Europe, we were delayed by a freak electrical storm over the Atlantic. This wouldn’t have been so bad except we were coming back to sign a release to disconnect Mama from life support. The carefully packed treasures from our travels no longer seemed important.
Thankfully, none of our luggage went MIA on that trip, as it had on a couple of previous trips. Of all the missing items, the only one I really grieved for was the Bible I had used and relied on since 4th grade. Missing luggage new meaning to Jesus’s message about aligning our priorities with His.

Jesus tried to tell and show us that the transient, the tangible things of this life are never meant to last, much less be depended upon. He taught and showed us that the things of the spirit are what we should cling to.
What are the treasures you cling to, Dear Reader? Is it the trappings of your wedding, or godly devotion of your spouse? Is it birthday parties and graduations, or the blessing of sharing the gospel with your children?
Jesus calls us to claim everlasting treasures that can only be found in Him. Shall we fill our bags for the journey with fruits such as love, joy, peace, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)?

I’d like to think I ‘travel light,’ but all too often I don’t. I cling to things or routines much more tightly than I need to!
Dear Friend, I was really preaching to myself on this one! I wonder if the Lord prefers flexibility (holding on loosely) to efficiency (sometimes being bound to our systems). Praise God, His patience and mercy are never ending!
